The Father's Promise

I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.’ Luke 24:49

It’s amazing that the Holy Spirit could get a name like “The Father’s Promise”. This means that the Holy Spirit is so closely associated with the Father making a promise to his people. It also shows us the Father’s eagerness to give us the Holy Spirit. There was such anticipation amongst the disciples that after Jesus had left, they waited in the city as instructed and as they waited, they would give themselves to prayer. This happened until the Promise was fulfilled.

The disciples show us the hunger we need to have for the Holy Spirit. Their belief, and anticipation were fulfilled when eventually the Holy Spirit was poured out and they were filled. Today, we can also catch God’s heart in Luke 11:13 which reads: “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” God is eager to give us the Holy Spirit; all we have to do is ask. The Promise is for us too. We can receive the Holy Spirit and be filled with power. Walk in the good of God’s Promise today and ask him to fill you with his Spirit.
