16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim 3:16
The Bible is not like any other book. The biggest thing that sets it apart is that though it was penned by (chosen) human hands, it’s words were breathed out by God. Every last word in the Bible was spoken by God into the hearts and ears of different people that they wrote them down. Some versions will talk about all Scripture being “inspired by God”.
This is important for us when we approach the Bible to realise that we are not reading any ordinary book, but that the words we read are just as good as though God himself were speaking them to us in all his power and authority. That will give us a reverence for the Word of God, a holy fear and a desire to read, listen and absorb and to allow the words to impact the way we live our lives.
Joel Osteen has many critics but he is right when he holds up his Bible and declares: “This is my Bible. I am what it says I am. I have what it says I have. I can do what it says I can do”. Why? Because it contains the words and the authority of God Himself! Remember this as you read the Bible today.
