Love and Money and Thingz

17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:17-18

A friend put a post on facebook on how they dislike it when someone says ‘I’ll pray for you’ but you suspect that it is unlikely to happen. John felt the exact same way – love has to be evidenced by action or it just isn’t genuine love. John understood that love is not shown by the words spoken but by the actions done.

Material possessions (money and other valuables) are the hardest thing to part with sometimes, therefore I believe John used them as an example on purpose. Are you willing to give up your possessions for those in need?

Ask God to show you someone with a need either in your life or in the street who’s need that you can meet – it might be money, food or an action. You may or may not find it easy, but try it and see the difference an action done in love has on someone else.
