Remember this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 2 Cor 9:6
Yesterday we looked at the importance of what you sow and the importance of sowing to please the Spirit rather than the flesh. It is equally important how you sow and today’s passage teaches us that we should sow generously.
I had the awesome privilege of growing up in a family that overflowed with generosity. Growing up, I watched my parents model this God-given quality in a very powerful way. In fact, whenever I am with them, they always seem to be giving something away to somebody. Even when they don’t have very much to give, they tend to give very much.
When we give away finances or material possessions, the Bible teaches us that we are sowing. Reading on to verse 7, we are urged to not give under compulsion but to be cheerful givers, because God loves that. It’s a matter of the heart and it’s only God who can help our hearts so today, why don’t you pray that God will help you to be a cheerful giver and make you generous. And then why not also pray and ask God to show you someone you can give something away to…and then DO IT!
Verse 8 gives us this amazing declaration: “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” Amen! So be it!
