But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:26

Recently, my wife and I were chatting to some friends from the UK and we were all comparing notes and commented at the difference in the expense of getting help in the home between Zimbabwe and the UK. Every context has things they take for granted. For us in Zim, this is one thing. In fact, help is one thing that we easily take for granted. When we view help with soberness, we are humbled to realise that when we need help, it’s normally because we are helpless on our own. If we realise that, we will be more grateful and will treat the help with the dignity and honour they deserve.

Another problem is that we sometimes view help as a subordinate role. It’s only our human nature and delusion that give us this error. These issues affect our thinking, especially when we come to seeing The Holy Spirit as our Helper. A helper is someone who comes alongside us to empower us and to help us to do something that we cannot do ourselves. Also we need to realise that a helper is capable and skilled to do those things much better than we could. On this note, we need to remember who the Holy Spirit is. He is God. Who else would be more capable to help you but the Person who knows everything, can do anything better than anyone else in the entire universe and is available all the time? It’s this same God who is for us, has our best interest so at heart and would like us to prosper in everything we do.

The Holy Spirit is our Helper. He is the best helper that we could possibly have. Don’t take Him for granted and ask him for help today. The shortest prayer in the world is one that God answers. Here it is: HELP!
