And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28.
In verse 26, Paul points out that we do not know how we ought to pray. I wonder if you can relate to that, where sometimes you don’t even know where to begin and you know you need to pray but have no clue what to say. Good news is that the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. Equally good news comes in verse 28 in the form of something we do know. And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. These are one of those promises which should serve as an anchor in our lives and something that Paul assumes everyone knows because it is so important.
Here’s what you ought to know right in the depth of your heart: no matter what life throws at you, God will use it for your good! When you are faced with a tough situation which should typically cause you to worry, that is not the time to be figuring out what you believe, no, you need to have these anchors locked in place for when the winds and the waves come. Read and meditate on the Scripture. Memorise it until it’s coming out of your ears because then it will be an anchor in your heart and when things look like they are going bad, you can immediately say with confidence and from the bottom of your heart, “Thank you good God, because this will ultimately be worked out for my good and the good of others!” For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God. 2 Cor 1:20.
