I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. John 10:9
Both verse 7 and verse 9 state Jesus as saying that he is the gate for the sheep. Sandwiched between these two verses is one where he tells that all who have come before him are thieves and robbers. In verse 10 we see what the thief’s agenda is – to steal and kill and destroy. On the contrary, Jesus comes to give life, and life to the full. Here’s the crunch: Jesus is the gate and only true way to God. The thief is the devil. He sows seeds of all sorts of lies to tell us that there are other ways to God. His agenda is to rob us of the truth and power of the gospel of Jesus Christ, to keep as many people dead in their sins and to destroy the plan of God for them.
Don’t buy into that lie today. Jesus is the only way to find life in its fullness. He is the only way to enter into God’s fold where we find safety and security and nurturing and true growth. The promise is that whoever enters through him will be saved. We’re not called to debate this endlessly but to receive it and find salvation in the one who powerfully declared, “I am the gate”.
