3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. 1 Cor 15:3-5

A couple of days ago we figured that the gospel is the most important news that anyone will ever hear. Today we ask, does the gospel have a core, one central point, a crux? Once we peel off any layers, what do we find as it’s absolute essence? It’s interesting that the word crux, which means the basic, central and critical point or feature originated as a reference to a real cross and its association with torment and trouble. It’s no wonder that at the crux of the most important news of all time is the cross of Jesus Christ.

The essence of the gospel is that Jesus died (taking your sins with Him) onto the cross, he was buried (a fulfillment of prophecy if Christ being assigned a grave with the wicked) and he rose from the dead on the third day (to display his victory over sin, death and the devil). These events are what made this good news we have received. They also place a permanent mark in history affecting dates & times and ultimately the destinies of mankind.

Take a few moments to meditate on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus and thanking Him for the significance of these events on you and those around you. Pray also that God would help you to stop sinning because apparently when we go on sinning we trample the Son of God underfoot, we treat his blood as an unholy thing and we insult the Spirit of Grace.
