1 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. 1 Cor 15:1-5.
This week, we will be going back to basics. Often in my life, I will pause and think about my priorities. This normally results in changing them to suit the season of life and the requirements of family, ministry and work. In a fast changing world and the fast changing industry in which I work, it is always necessary to evaluate and alter my priorities accordingly.
One of my biggest fears for us as the people of God is that we get caught up in a fast changing world and set our priorities according to latest trends and forget what Paul describes in these verses as of first importance. This should never ever change. He writes to remind the Corinthians of the gospel that he has preached to them, which they had received and on which they had taken their stand. You and I need a letter like that to remind us what the main thing is. We need a daily reminder of the gospel and then we also pass it on to others as a top priority item. This priority should never ever be tampered with; it should always be top priority.
Today, thank God for the Gospel, then memorise it and pray that it would impact your heart afresh as you meditate on it. Pray that God would help you today to make sharing the gospel (both to remind believers and to impact those not yet believing) a top priority item in your life. Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, he was buried, he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and he appeared to many. The main thing is that we keep the main thing the main thing!
