Today, I would like us to read a set of verses in 1 Cor 2:9 – 15 and to be in prayer, first for ourselves and then for others, especially those who don’t know Christ. Here’s why: there’s just too much to make sense of in this world and frankly speaking the things of God are not easy to understand. In fact, I would go as far as saying unless the Holy Spirit reveals God’s ways and wonders to us, it is impossible for us to lay hold of them.
Sometimes as I read the Bible or as I think about the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, what He went through and what that means to me, I am undone with a sense of wonder. At times like that, I struggle to imagine that there are some who dismiss God or His Son Jesus. It’s at times like that that I should also pray and be thankful that by His Holy Spirit, God has ‘unblinded’ my eyes and caused me to see. I need to be thankful, and then I need to continue praying for myself that the Holy Spirit will continue revealing truth and the heart of God to me. This will sustain me in my Christian walk. I also need to pray fervently for those that don’t know Jesus. The only way they can be saved is for the Holy Spirit to do what only He can do. Read these verses and then pray.
9 However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’ – the things God has prepared for those who love him – 10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgements about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgements… 1 Cor 2:9 – 15.
