7 Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water’; so they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them,‘Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.’ They did so 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realise where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, ‘Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.’
John 2:7-10.
Jesus is simply amazing! While he was on this earth as a man he performed dozens of miracles recorded in Scripture. Sometimes he’s healing the sick or raising the dead, but at other times he just does something cool. Like this miracle recorded in John 2. This was the first miracle that Jesus performed. He was at a wedding and the wine ran out. No problem, fill the jars with water then taste it. Result: the finest wine!
For Jesus to do this kind of miracle, 1) He must love weddings. He must have thought this kind of celebration without wine would not be good at all. He helps people to celebrate something as beautiful as two people getting married. 2) He must also love people. His concern is for the bride and the groom, their families and guests. He does something special for them.
Yesterday, my wife received a message from a friend who was testifying of how God had miraculously repaired their oven so they could bake. Yes Jesus can do that. He loves you and cares for every little detail of your life. You can ask him to perform miracles in your everyday life. Ask him for specific things where you have need. He can do it! Believe it and behold the goodness of the Lord.
Finally if you carry on reading to the next verse (11), you will see that Jesus performs miracles ultimately for his glory and so that people can believe in him. We get to pick up bonuses of his love and kindness along the way but let us not forget what it is ultimately about. Jesus is amazing!
