If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
“I get knocked down, but I get up again. You’re never gonna keep me down!” It’s a catchy contemporary song but perhaps with a message for you and I in our Christian walk. On our second day, we saw the fine example of Jesus – that encourages us. Yesterday, he showed us that we can resist temptation and don’t have to be overwhelmed by it – that encourages us. Today we see that if we do blow it, which will happen from time to time, we can come to God and ask our loving Heavenly Father to forgive us and He is faithful to do so and to make us clean. That encourages us!
Yes, this Christian life is hard, but isn’t it amazing how God promises to walk with us and to help us every step of the way. He encourages us before we’re ever tempted, while we are being tempted and after we are tempted. He encourages us all the time and tells us we can do it. According to God, there is no time for feeling condemned, feeling so guilty that the devil starts playing with your mind some more. There’s no time for thinking you are worthless because you have given in to temptation.
If you’ve been knocked down, you need to get back up again and get back in that fight. You have been promised strength for the fight and courage for each time you get knocked down. You are not on your own. God is with you. He is loving and forgiving and will hold nothing against you. I hope you will find that as refreshing as I do. May God give you strength.
