The Great Expectation

25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. Luke 2:25-26

It is thought that Simeon was an old man though we don’t know for sure. What we do know is that he had lived his life with an expectation that he would one day see the Messaiah face to face, the Messaiah who would bring comfort to his people. What a feeling! What a way to live one’s life! Everyday with a sense of “could this be the day?”

What you expect today determines how much hope you have today. When we lose hope it’s because we no longer expect anything good. The story of Christmas is a story of hope. Hope that a great promise would be fulfilled and that One would come who would bring salvation and new life to his people. I pray that this Christmas season, your sense of hope would be renewed as you live a life of expectancy – expecting that you and others will encounter Jesus and that his power will transform every part of life. You can pray the same. Say to yourself, to God and to others, right now and everyday, “Today may be the best day of my life.”
