7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
Psalms 19:7-8
Look at the adjectives used for the Bible – “perfect”, “trustworthy”, “right”, “radiant”. And look at the results for us:
- refreshing the soul – in a world that is hostile, God’s Word is like an oasis that refreshes us on the inside
- making wise the simple – if you have ever wanted to be wise, with taking in God’s Word comes wisdom
- giving joy to the heart – there’s putting a smile on your face and then there’s joy in your heart. The latter can never be taken away from you and is deep-seated and powerful
- giving light to the eyes – the Bible helps us to see God, the world, ourselves, others and the world clearly as we ought
The Bible is powerful to build you up on the inside, where it counts. It is powerful to transform your heart for good, to transform your thought life and to give you a deep-seated faith that will help you live the kind of victorious life that God would have you live. If you’ve ever heard that the best kind of change is from the inside-out, the way to experience it is to transform and strengthen the inner man by reading, meditating and memorising the Word of God, and then applying it to everyday life. Be transformed today, by the renewing of the mind as it is washed by the powerful and eternal Word of God!
