1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
Psalms 1:1-2
God’s word is our delight! The Bible is that one book that will always be on your shelf all the days of your life and will never become out of fashion. It is that one book that you will read over and over and over and over again without becoming tired of it. We read in Heb 4:12 that “the word of God is alive and active…” It’s no wonder then that we never get tired of it. Reading the Bible is not like reading a novel; essentially it is interacting with a Person. It is interacting with God himself.
It’s also no wonder that we read of it being our delight. Interacting with the Bible ought to be a delightful experience and not an obligation that we go through with gritted teeth. It’s a joy, a delight as we search the Scriptures in pursuit of God and as we find him and get to gaze upon his beauty. How delightful is your Bible reading experience these days? Is it a bit of a drag or are you enjoying it as you should? Do you find you read the Bible out of guilt and knowing you need to or is it something you can’t wait for? Ask God to send you His Holy Spirit to bring the Bible to life in you and to make the experience a delight as you find God in his word.
