1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy that was set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Heb 12:1-3
Yesterday, my friend Simba and I had a the awesome privilege of sitting with the board of an Interact club in a local school. They have had 9 very difficult months working together in leadership and they have found it tough and feel they haven’t achieved very much. We were able to look into their eyes and say with purpose, “but you’ve still got 3 whole months to go, you can do it; you can finish strong!” “Yes we can, came the response”.
Today marks the end of our series on Guidance. When God has given us direction, things will get tough at various points of the journey. Stay the course! Knowing that you are in God’s will will help you to persevere when the going gets tough.
In the unconventional approach and words of my dear friend Mark, “only change the plan if you are sure you got it wrong the first time and you are able to stand before God and man and confess that you missed it”. If God showed you the plan, stick to it. Remember, it’s his plan and he will give you the resources and the strength to see it through. Don’t go changing it because things are tough. Let’s endeavour to be like Jesus who knew God’s plan for him to die a gruesome death being crucified on a cross. “For the joy that was set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart”
As Winston Churchill would say, “Never, never, never give up!”
