Son of God

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 1 John 4:15

So a week or two ago, in our family devotions, we were going through stories about Jesus and all the different miracles he performed and, of course, the kids loved the stories. We would read the stories and then go through the prescribed questions, with my oldest daughter, the family’s newest reader at 6, insisting to take charge of one or the other. Each time the last question would be, “Why could Jesus do this?” And in a seemingly rehearsed unison, they would all shout, “because he’s the Son of God!” Yeah! That’s what I’m talking about!

Two nights ago, we read the story of Zaccheus and got to the last two questions: “Do you want Jesus to be your friend?” The unison roared, “yes!” Last question: “Why?” “Because he’s the Son of God!” I think they get it. Do you get it as well? Jesus is the Son of God and that stands for a lot. He might have been here as a man, but he wasn’t any old man. This was God’s Son come straight from heaven, that God had given to us.

He carries the marks of God. His love, his compassion, his power, his authority. You would do well to have him as your friend too. Be close to him everyday. Because you are in him, you get to reflect all those qualities of God too. As the apostle John would say, “remain in the Vine”. Remain plugged in to Jesus, the Son of God!
