WWPJM?

As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. 1 Thes 4:1

so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God… Col 1:10

Often we get caught up trying to make sure we make the right decision. The problem comes when our thinking is there is only one right choice and everything else is wrong. Don’t you think that sometimes we take ourselves too seriously? Don’t we often get so caught up in being dogmatic that we work ourselves into all sorts of knots? Just relax. You know often it’s not so much about whether or not you make the right decision as it is that you walk with Jesus and learn to please him.

Do you remember those WWJD bracelets? Whatever happened to them? I used to have about 5 when they were “in”. What Would Jesus Do? Perhaps there is a better question to ask because frankly we don’t know what Jesus would do and that’s putting one’s self under undue pressure. That’s legalistic. How about WWPJM? What Would Please Jesus Most? Aha! This approach throws a lot more into the mix. Firstly, I would need to learn what things please Jesus. This comes by reading the Word and learning about God. Secondly, I would need to walk with him. It’s a relationship rather than a set of rules. This takes fear away and brings in love and security as we endeavour to please Jesus in our lives and in all our decisions and dealings.

Cultivate that relationship with him and purpose in your heart to live your life in a way that is pleasing to him.
