But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 2 Cor 3:16
The Bible is here talking about the veil of Moses that we saw yesterday. The coming of Jesus completely revolutionised relationship with and access to God. You will remember that the moment he died on the cross, there was another veil that featured in the story. It was in the form of a thick woven curtain in the temple which enclosed the Holy of holies, the place where the presence of God was known to reside in its glory. Only the High priest was allowed in there and then, only once a year. And he had to be very careful that he had no sins not atoned for and that he did everything by the book, otherwise he would die in there.
Anyway, the moment Jesus died, that thick curtain tore in two from top to bottom symbolising a God-initiated new era where there would now be free access to God and his presence. That is the error we live in today. We can come boldly. Today, let us get our instruction and application from this wonderful passage in Hebrews 10. Look for the words “Let us” and purpose to obey. God bless you.
19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
