6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Luke 2:6-7
Jesus is born! It was a festive time in Bethlehem. When Jesus was born, humble though his situation was, Heaven made a scene of his birth. Angels appeared to some shepherds to announce the news to them in a spectacular way. A star also appeared to some wise men from the east so that they could start their journey to go see and worship this new King! It certainly was a festive season, but for all the right reasons.
I spent Christmas Day this year with my wife’s grandmother with a significant number of her descendants and spouses. It was truly special, but the most special thing about it, was the acknowledgement of the reason for the season and together coming before Jesus, the King of kings to bring homage to him. There is a lot that is special and enjoyable about Christmas – family gatherings, the lights, the gifts, the food and it’s good to celebrate together.
But above all, I pray that this Christmas, you would encounter the Presence of the after whom it is named. It’s not X-mas; the last I remember from high school mathematics, ‘x’ is an unknown. My prayer is that this Christmas you would not replace Christ the King with the unknown. I pray that you would truly celebrate but that it would not be just partying for the sake of partying, but that it would be the most significant birthday party you would ever attend, one that would change your life forever – an encounter with Jesus Christ himself.
Happy birthday Jesus!
