1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, ‘Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7 “The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.”’ 8 Then they remembered his words. Luke 24:1-8
This was the miracle of miracles. Jesus told his disciples that he would die and be raised again. Who does that. Who predicts his own resurrection from the dead? This was the ultimate display of power and an all important miracle for us as Christians.
Paul displays his confidence in this miracle in 1 Cor 15:14-19 when he writes: “14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.”
This miracles means everything to us. It gives credibility to everything we stand for. And it gives us an unfailing hope in Jesus. It helps us to know that everything will be OK. Today, simply take time to thank Jesus and to celebrate this ultimate victory that he won over sin, the flesh, the world, the devil and death itself. Hallelujah! Christ is risen!
